Great thought. I would also add that people don't look at churches as a family of believers. Now there are many legitimate reasons that people feel they need to leave the church. However, if you're mad at Grandma you don't go to some other old person's house on her birthday or the holidays--you deal with them.

The issue is that the church is viewed as irrelevant to the lives of the laity. And not only does the hierarchy and the clergy have to deal well with that but the laity also have a great responsiblity in making their parish a "relevant place."
