The song In The End by Linkin Park is not typically associated with any of the Holy Week story - that is an understatement.
But there is something raw that caught me a few months ago when it cycled on my iPod. I could stay away from this portion of the lyrics:
I tried so hard
In spite of the way you were mocking me
Acting like I was part of your property
Remembering all the times you fought with me
I’m surprised it got so (far)
Things aren’t the way they were before
You wouldn’t even recognize me anymore
Not that you knew me back then
But it all comes back to me
In the end
This year, it has really struck home that Jesus was flesh & blood - his walk along humiliation, towards a apinful death was real. It is easy for me to explain it away as a metaphor, as some type of atonement checks & balances.
He walked to his death, realizing that in the end, it did not really matter.
